Vasyl Vasyliev Collection

Category: Private Collections
Location: Bila Tserkva, Ukraine

The private collection of Vasyl Vasyliovych Vasyliev — a native of Bila Tserkva who became fascinated with Petrykivka while studying in Dnipropetrovsk in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From 1975, the collector personally visited Petrykivka, met the artists, corresponded with them, and purchased new works. The collection comprises over 400 original works on paper by more than 120 masters of four generations and is considered one of the largest and most important private collections of Petrykivka painting in Ukraine.

Since 2005, the collection has been shown in more than 30 exhibitions — at the Kyiv History Museum, the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia art museums, the Vernadsky National Library, and regional museums of local lore. In 2015, the collector self-published the illustrated album “My Petrykivka. Private Collection.” Vasyl Vasyliev also helped establish Petrykivka painting collections at the Bila Tserkva Museum of Local Lore and the Museum of Hetmanship in Kyiv.
