Yavdokha Kliupa

Biography

Yavdokha Kliupa was born on 8 March 1921 in the village of Ivanivka (now Kolhospivka) in the Petrykivka district of the Dnipro region. In 1938, she graduated from the Petrykivka School of Decorative Painting, where she studied under the guidance of Tetiana Pata, along with a whole generation of artists who later defined the face of Petrykivka painting in the second half of the twentieth century.

After graduating from school, in 1938-1939, she worked as a counted embroidery artist at the Nadiia Krupska Artel of Artistic Embroidery and Fabrics in Velyki Sorochyntsi, Poltava region. From 1946, she worked intermittently at the Druzhba factory in Petrykivka, where from 1958 to 1981 she worked in the workshop of underlacquer painting of artistic products. She was a member of the artistic council of the factory.

She died on November 23, 1995 in Petrykivka.

Artistic Practice

Jawdoha Klupa is a brilliant master of color. Her works are characterized by the richness and accuracy of color solutions, free and confident brushstrokes.

Among her famous works: “Bouquet” (1959), “Curly Viburnum” (1986), “Rooster and Butterfly” (1986), “Turkey” (1987). Some works are kept in the Dnipro Art and History Museums.

Recognition

Participant of all-Ukrainian and foreign art exhibitions since the late 1950s.
