Valentyna Deka

Biography

Valentyna Deka was born on February 24, 1957 in the village of Chervonopartyzanske, Tsarychanskyi district (now part of Petrykivka village), Dnipro region. In 1978 she graduated from the Dnipro Art School (teacher - V. Zahubybatko).

Since then, she has been working as an artist of decorative painting in the experimental workshop of the Dnipropetrovs’k Art and Production Plant - now the Petrykivka Folk Art Center.

She comes from the Stachyva family, the sister of Lidiia Bulavyn, Mariia Yanenko, and Nataliia Stachyva-Zharko. She is the wife of the Petrykivka master Mykola Deka.

Artistic Practice

She paints panels with birds and flowers, as well as thematic compositions depicting people with tempera on paper. He is a master of the technique of underglaze painting on wood, decorating decorative vases, plates and boxes.

Recognition

Honored Master of Folk Art of Ukraine (2007). Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (since 1981) and the National Union of Masters of Folk Art of Ukraine (since 2002). Participant of republican and international exhibitions since 1979. Personal exhibition - in Dnipropetrovs’k (1993). The works are kept in the Dnipro Art Museum, the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art and the Ukrainian Museum of Decorative Art in Chicago (USA).
