Olha Cheromushkina (born in Dnipro; exact year to be confirmed) is an artist of monumental and decorative painting, a fifth-generation master of Petrykivka painting.
Training
She began painting at age 7–8 at a children’s camp under a master named Oksana, later continuing her training in Dnipro. She graduated from Petrykivka Vocational School No. 79 as a master of wood painting, studying the legacy of Fedir Panko and Marfa Tymchenko.
Work
Since 2008 she has painted walls and facades: the interior of the “Husy-Lebedi” café in Mariupol (2010), concrete tetrapods and fences (2014, “My Element” art project). In 2020 she completed the largest Petrykivka mural to date — 500 running meters on churches in Mariupol, entered into Ukraine’s Book of Records; according to the Mariupol City Council, the occupying authorities destroyed this decoration in 2024.
She creates icons (including “Oranta”) and portraits (Lesya Ukrainka, Taras Shevchenko) composed of floral ornament, and experiments with monochrome palettes, notably cobalt blue, instead of Petrykivka’s traditional multicolor range.
Since 2022
After being forced to relocate to Germany, she has lived in Rostock, holding weekly Petrykivka painting workshops at the “Zukunftsladen” creative space and donating part of the proceeds to charity. Exhibitions in Germany: pysanky at Petrikirche (2023), “Thank You Rostock” (2023), “Women’s Power” in Güstrow (2023), Nikolaikirche (2024).
