Volodymyr Padun Collection
The collection of Volodymyr Makarovych Padun (1942–2016), a Dnipro-based artist, colorist, and educator known as a collector and researcher of the Ukrainian folk art of the Steppe Ukraine. The core of the collection consists of more than 45 historical drawings and original sketches by Petrykivka masters on paper, as well as authentic rushnyky (embroidered towels), clothing, jugs, and painted household items gathered during expeditions. The collection represents the original, “source” Petrykivka painting without Soviet-era layers.
The gathered materials formed the basis of the large-scale exhibition “The Open Soul of Petrykivka” in Dnipro. Padun was a prominent representative of the underground “Ihren School”: the ornamentation, plasticity, and pure, vivid colors of folk painting organically entered his own easel painting.
