Kyiv Experimental Ceramics and Art Factory (KEKKhZ)
The Kyiv Experimental Ceramics and Art Factory (KEKKhZ) operated from 1924 to 2006 and became the first flagship enterprise to adapt traditional Petrykivka painting to the mass production of artistic porcelain.
In the 1930s, masters from Petrykivka — Marfa Tymchenko, Vira Klymenko-Zhukova, and Pelaheya Hlushchenko — moved to work at the factory (then still a paint and decal factory), later joined by other artists. They formed the so-called “Kyiv group” and were among the first to transfer the vivid floral and bird motifs of Petrykivka onto porcelain, shaping a recognizable national style. The factory’s services, decorative vases, and themed sculptures adorned with the painting were exported to France, Germany, Japan, and other countries.
