Oleksandr Opariy (born June 20, 1973, Perekhrestivka, Romny district, Sumy region) is an artist of decorative art and a member of the Association of Porcelain and Faience Researchers (since 2017).
Education
He graduated from the Myrhorod Ceramic College (2001) and the Lviv National Academy of Arts (2008), where he has taught at the Department of Artistic Textiles ever since.
Work
He works in beadwork, pysanka painting, artistic textiles (tapestry, batik, heddle weaving, fabric printing) and porcelain painting. He reinterprets traditions of folk ornamentation, including Petrykivka painting, adapting its technique to the complex overglaze decoration of porcelain vessels.
He has exhibited in Ukraine since 1996, at international art salons in Lviv (2004, 2005), and at the “Interweaving” textile art plein air (Lviv, 2015). Solo exhibitions: Myrhorod (2000, 2017), Romny (2005), Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kyiv (2017).
Collecting
He collects Ukrainian folk women’s clothing from the late 19th–early 20th centuries, exhibited in Sambir, Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chervonohrad, and Myrhorod (2011–2018).
Collections
His works are held in the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art (Kyiv), the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv, and regional museums and reserves in the Sumy, Volyn, and Odesa regions.
