Halyna Prudnikova
Biography
Halyna Yakivna Prudnikova (née Zavhorodnia) was born on August 19, 1921 in Petrykivka. In 1938, she graduated from the Petrykivka School of Decorative Drawing, where she studied under the guidance of Tetiana Pata and Oleksandr Stachyva, along with a whole generation of artists who later formed the basis of Petrykivka painting.
In 1939-1941, she worked as an embroiderer in the Lesia Ukrainka Artel in Poltava. Since 1958, she was among the first masters of the underglaze painting workshop at the Free Peasant Artel in Petrykivka, where the postwar revival of Petrykivka painting as a craft began under the leadership of Fedir Panko. She worked at the Druzhba factory until she retired.
She died on 31 December 2008 in Petrykivka.
Artistic Practice
Halyna Prudnikova’s ornamental compositions feature fantastic flowers, birds and berries, skillfully arranged on a plane. She skillfully combined warm and cold tones, achieving a lively color balance.
Among the famous works: “Peacocks and Grapes” (1949), “Flowers” (1960), “Two Fantastic Birds” (1963), “Bird” (1960s), “Mother’s Cherry” (1986), “Towel” (1986), “Box” (1960), and “Friezes” (1988).
Recognition
Participant of all-Ukrainian, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions since 1947, decadal - since 1951. Her works are kept at the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine (Kyiv), Dnipro Art and History Museums, Petrykivka Museum of Ethnography, Life and Folk Art.
