Nataliia Statyva Zharko

Biography

Nataliia I. Statyva (née Zharko) was born on 23 October 1970 in the village of Petrykivka, Dnipro region. In 1982-1986 she studied at the Dnipro Children’s Art School. In 1987-1991 - at the Dnipro State Art School.

In 1991-1992, she worked as a master of decorative painting in the experimental workshop of the Dnipropetrovs’k Art and Production Plant in Petrykivka. In 1995-2002, she was a junior researcher at the Bila Tserkva Museum of Local Lore. In 2014-2016, she was a teacher of fine arts at Bila Tserkva School of Arts No. 1. Since 2002, she has been working as an artist.

She comes from the Staryva family - the sister of Valentyna Deka, Lidiia Bulavin, and Mariia Yanenko.

Artistic Practice

Using the centuries-old heritage of Petrykivka painting, the artist combines traditional motifs with the search for new imaginative lines and modern means of their realization. She creates both decorative and applied items (wooden, glass, and ceramic tableware), furniture and interiors, and graphic works.

Recognition

Member of the National Union of Masters of Folk Art of Ukraine (since 1995). Laureate of the Kyiv Regional Prize in Folk Art named after Petro Verna (2019). Her works are kept in the Dnipro Art Museum, the National Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts (Kyiv), the Borys Hmyria Museum (Kyiv), the National Museum of Ukrainian Art (Kyiv), the Zaporizhzhia Regional Art Museum, the Bila Tserkva Museum of Local Lore, the museums of Chemnitz (Germany) and Bobruisk (Belarus), as well as in private collections.
