Nadiia Shulyk

Biography

Nadiia Shulyk was born on 27 March 1922 in Petrykivka. In 1937-1939, she worked as an embroiderer in the Free Peasant Artel. In 1939-1941, she studied Petrykivka painting with Tetiana Pata at the Petrykivka School of Decorative Drawing, the same school that has trained a whole generation of classical masters over the years.

Before and after the Second World War, she performed alfresco works. Since 1958, she has been a master of Petrykivka painting at the Druzhba factory, one of the first sixteen artists of the underlaid painting workshop founded by Fedir Panko. In 1970-1992, she worked at the Experimental Workshop of Petrykivka Decorative Painting at the Dnipropetrovs’k Art and Production Plant.

She died in 1992 in Petrykivka.

Artistic Practice

Nadiia Shulyk worked in several fields: embroidery, painting on paper and wood, and alfresco painting. She preserved her individual artistic style - her favorite ornamental motifs and colors, established by the school of Tetiana Patia.

Among her special projects, she headed a team of Petrykivka artists who painted murals in the Kyiv toy store “Skazka”. She has participated in all-Ukrainian exhibitions since 1960. Together with Hanna Isaieva, Mariia Shyshatska, and Zoya Kudish, she was a member of Fedir Panko’s team of home-based artists at the Dnipropetrovs’k Art and Production Plant (since 1970).
