Petrykivka Museum of Ethnography
The Petrykivka Museum of Ethnography, Everyday Life, and Folk Applied Art is a specialized institution in the village of Petrykivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, opened on December 13, 2010. It is one of the main centers for preserving the Cossack heritage of the region and Petrykivka painting, inscribed on the UNESCO list.
The museum’s holdings comprise over 2,500 authentic exhibits. The exhibition is divided into thematic halls: a hall of history and everyday life (antique clothing, rushnyky, work tools, furniture, Cossack household items) and a hall of folk applied art (works by painting masters, ceramics, painted wooden tableware, and chests). A separate large hall is devoted entirely to Petrykivka painting — primarily items from the Petrykivka Painting Factory and works donated to the museum by masters, including Hanna Samarska and Volodymyr Hlushchenko. Visitors can not only view the exhibition but also create their own drawing during a master class using a traditional cat-hair brush — the “koshachka.”
